saturday's poem

staring across at the hawthorn bridge
i asked the universe for an answer
sitting under my bodhi tree
before the rains came
in silence deep enough
to hear my pen moving across paper
across the water
the endless drone
thousands of people flee to the north
i sit on the shore
as the river runs by
gray saturdays
spent walking nowhere
