high latino dropout rate

The high latino drop out rate is feeling very real today. I wonder how many of these poor kids are gonna make it through high school? Sitting in the room, this week's ED 291 reading assignment is feelin' pretty real to me... after all, how relevant is any of this curriculum to the lives of these guys? And yet they need to finish school or they're in for some real trouble...Something to mull over for awhile...

Something about working with teens makes me think about these things more often than not...in a rather Kozol sort of way mind you. Seems like this society doesn't have much to offer kids...or anyone else really. The sad but beautiful thing about teens is that they are old enough to suspect all of this...and young enough to lash out.
